our memoir : broken story

We are interpretive mash-up
sunlight and sky, soil and water spit
green plant and digestion
mineral bits conjure intuition
interplay of the juicy morsel and the dust mote inert

Helix strands intertwined repetitive
iterative – logical and breaking
remaking form
a temporary sum of the enslaved and nomad
the warrior and neanderthal back and back to the starting line

And we are endlessly interpretable

                                                               somebody’s blessing
somebody’s horror
somebody’s anchor
somebody’s wish

Can we humble and relate
hail the earthworm and the water
 the flower, wind and moon
stand patient, wait the season
offer what we have in hand?

Join the cycle
join the circle
become part of the awe unfurling
that is life growing and dying
reclaiming and returned

Though we burn rough as fire

                                                               are we parasite?
are we cousin?
are we too high off the ground?

Can we rebuild from the flame?

someone’s offered
someone’s threatened
someone’s cuddled
someone’s crowned

Ah yes, know this place is heaven
our bodies fit and thrive here
we were made for each other
with each other
as each other

This world we move upon
shifts resilient and rebounding
but we are swiftly breaking this paradise in hand
Earth will survive us
though we may not survive ourselves

Hold still and witness

we are rending
we are gnashing
we are angels self-torn down

we are broken
we are grieving
we are horrified and shamed

we are brutal
we are unkind
we are vicious in our names

It is right here if we reach for it
Claim the hard work of shamed and misplaced tendernesses
Closer than neighbors, afraid to be siblings
Can we release fear, discern relations
and move through a million hurt and broken ways?
