Mining Meridel

Desdamona

(Found poem using words from Meridel Le Sueur and some of my own)

The sun, with child
Flesh shining
Pegan and wise
Still like budding tree
Like corn stalk
Sweating in heat
Walk heavily,
Time bending across sky
Unknown child born
With stories that never, never die
Seed into new country
A history of lies will not be our legacy
We will tell the myth of conquerors and their “discoveries”
Unmask the betrayal
And know it was the bumble bee and the butterfly
Who survived
Not these dinosaurs
Money will not be our currency
It will burn at the lightest touch of our fingertips
And we will warm our hands in that light
We will not be without dream
We will taste a thousand pies
We will not see the world as a stone
We will not negotiate with greed
We will outfox the frost
and write on the walls
of the sensuous and creative expression of life
We will not leave our passions deep and submerged
We will never die, those of us who have the future in us
