SOLSTICE DREAMS

2013
Andrea Jenkins

He has two fingers resting
Gingerly upon his lips

Contemplating the balance
in the universe

There is a connection
Between what happens

In the material world
and what happens

In the spiritual world. If you
are on the side of the

Angels your view is
obstructed by glitter

If you are on the side
of evil- your perspective

Will be overshadowed
By obscurity, either way

You will find this
landscape absurd

Where can you find the balance?

She takes two fingers
And places them over her

Third eye and begins
To meditate- her mind goes

Blank. She eases gently
Into a liminal space.

Even in the United States
Of America we are balanced

By a legislative branch
And a judicial branch

If either takes control
Society becomes problematic

He flexes his thumbs
And rests them against his

Temples- it’s the middle
Of day and night

Twelve hours on each side.
There is fullness

In the moon tonight
In his mind’s eye it is

Brighter than the sun.
A paradox in the grandest

sense of the word-
In the Bible we read

“Where there is no vision
The people shall parish.”

To move forward with vision
Is to move with a plan-

We must follow
A re-occurring star

That appears to remind
Us of this equinox

To re-calibrate our
Personal ecology

Detoxify our bodies
And our collective thinking.

She rubs her eyes with
With two forefingers

Emerges from her meditative
State, inhales deeply

Exhales at the same rate-
in an instant she

Is reconnected to self
Which just might mean
To the entire world.
